چکیده

The main goals of a switch scheme are high utilization, low queuing delay and fairness. To achieve high utilization the Ž . switch scheme can maintain non-zero small queues in steady state which can be used if the sources do not have data to Ž . send. Queue length delay can be controlled if part of the link capacity is used for draining queues in the event of queue build up. In most schemes a simple threshold function is used for queue control. Better control of the queue and hence delay can be achieved by using sophisticated queue control functions. It is very important to design and analyze such queue control functions. We study step, linear, hyperbolic and inverse hyperbolic queue control functions. Analytical explanation and simulation results consistent with analysis are presented. From the study, we conclude that inverse hyperbolic is the best control function and to reduce complexity the linear control function can be used since it performs satisfactorily in most cases. q 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. Rate-based Scheme for Atm Flow Control

ATM is representative of the connection-oriented resource provisioning class of protocols. The ATM network is expected to provide end-to-end QoS guarantees to connections in the form of bounds on delays, errors and/or losses. Performance management in ATM network depend upon different parameters. ABR flow control is one of the important parameter for performance management. In this paper, we sh...

Bounded controller design of an ABR explicit rate algorithm for ATM switches

Congestion control in the Available Bit Rate (ABR) class of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks poses interesting challenges due to the presence of delays, magnitude and rate constraints on the inputs and additive disturbances. In this paper, we consider a discrete-time fixed-structure controller for an ATM/ABR switch, also modeled in discrete-time, and solve a robust tracking control pro...

Abr Architecture and Simulation for an Input-buffered and Per-vc Queued Atm Switch

This paper proposes an innovative concept, called virtual output queue, to support available bit rate (ABR) traffic on an input-buffered, per virtual circuit (VC) queued switch. This technique allows ABR models developed for output-buffered systems to be migrated to an inputbuffered system. In order to evaluate the virtual output queue and to compare different ABR algorithms, a simulator of the...

Virtual Queueing Techniques for ABR Service: Improving ABR/VBR Interaction

Several algorithms have been proposed for the switch behavior for congestion control of Available Bit Rate (ABR) services. Schemes such as the Enhanced Proportional Rate Control Algorithm (EPRCA) and the Dynamic Max Rate Control Algorithm (DMRCA), which use the queue length as congestion indicator to make a simple approximation of the fair share converge to the actual fair share, have become po...
